10 Days in Rome!

Happy weekend guys! This is one of the best weekend in my life (I'm not even joking), because we are finally going to Rome for 10 days tomorrow! Yay! I'm so so excited. The less exciting bit though is that we have to be at the airport tomorrow morning for 4am, eeek!

I have planned a couple of posts whilst I'm away (I didn't forget the monthly wallpapers!), but as you might have deduced yourself, I won't be checking my emails regularly and will mostly be on social medias to share everyday moments of my holidays. I would like to say that I'm going to miss North Wales, but I would be lying because I won't miss it and its shitty weather AT ALL!

Make sure to follow me on Twitter and Instagram for updates and sneak peeks of our adventure!

Pinterest Addiction #12

Happy Bank Holiday guys!

Lately, I'm saying yes to summer vibes and bold layouts. And I think it's reflected quite well on my Pinterest feed! Here's a little selection:
1. Can you believe this artwork is from 2011? Just discovered it and I love the choice of colours and the abstract shapes.
2. You know how addicted I am to patterns, and this one just scream summer to me!
3. So random but so right. This layout makes me want to be more adventurous in my designs.
4. How beautiful are these pink flamingos?! Great shot full of colours.
5. Cute little illustration by Abbey Withington.
6. I couldn't resist but include a nice illustration that reminds me of my upcoming holidays!!

Enjoy the rest of your day :)

Wandering - Llyn Mair

Hey guys! How you all doing? I'm so ready for our holiday in Rome! But for now, I thought it was about time to share with you the amazing day we had for Jason's birthday :)

Before heading to Portmeirion (more about it soon!), we decided to stop at Llyn Mair (Welsh for 'Mary's lake') on the way, a beautiful manmade lake that was created by a father for his daughter's 21st birthday. Needless to say that we enjoyed walking around it, soaking in the sunshine and watching the old steam trains passing by.

If you're ever thinking of heading to Portmeirion, make sure to stop by! You won't regret it :)

Lately on Instagram #12

Happy Thursday! Well, I've been quite busy lately and I'm going to be even busier soon! This weekend I will be with View Creative at the Prom Xtra event in Colwyn Bay, where we've organised some fun activities for kids to get creative! Don't be surprised if you find me asleep with drawings on my face by 5pm on Sunday!

So here's what I've been up to lately:
Got to discover even more historical ruins // Visited Llyn Mair for Jason's birthday... // ... Before arriving to the wonderful world of Portmeirion // Sunday walk in Menai Bridge // Pretty flowers to celebrate Spring // Almost died (haha) in Bodnant Garden // Stuffed my face with pancakes // Enjoyed the view on Conwy Suspension Bridge // and reminded myself of the beautiful weather we had a couple of weeks ago (because lately it's been HO-RRI-BLE)

Portfolio Update #18 - Aberystwyth Summer Brochure

Is it me or are weekends never long enough?! It's already Sunday and I feel that I need another day to finally cross my entire to-do list! It doesn't stop me from taking the time to post a little Portfolio Update though, and I'm quite pleased to share with you the third and last of the current set of Aberystwyth Arts brochures :)

So obviously, with the theme being Summer (my favourite time of year), I was over the moon when I had to come up with some interesting and playful elements to include on the cover! I think this has to be my favourite out of the three brochures. I just love the colours!

Sad to be finishing this year's editions but fingers crossed I'll get to work on the next three ones ;)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend folks!

How To Freshen Up Your Wood Palette Furniture

So during the Easter bank holiday weekend over a month ago, we actually did a bit of the cliché activity, and decided to do some DIY around the house! Well, the weather was great, so we had no excuse ;)

One thing that we've wanted to do for quite a while is freshen up this bench that Jason made himself with some wood palettes. We really like the shape, and it fits perfectly behind the couch, but because we left the wood as it was, it looked unfinished and didn't suit the 'style' (I don't think that we actually have a proper style!) of the living room. So here is a step-by-step of our process to make it look cool!

First, Jason made sure to take it outside to sand it down. We needed it ready to add the wood stainer and white paint.

We previously used some cloths to spread the wood stainer but they weren't great and left some fluff on the wood, so this time we used a sponge and it was much better! I love how the wood absorbs the product and it really brings it to life, giving it a nice touch whilst keeping all the details. (PS: Make sure to use some gloves because well, it stains!)

Once we stained the top of the bench, the next step was to paint the legs in white. We really like to add contrast to our furniture, and we found that dark wood and white always looks great. Luckily, Jason was clever enough to have left the top of the bench removable when building it, so it made the task much easier! (If you look well, you can see at the background that he was also working on parts for his Capri... Multitasking!)

And last but not least, you need a good coat of varnish to finish it! I found varnish to be essential as it really adds a finishing touch to it and it makes the furniture easier to clean whilst protecting the wood. You do need to leave it to dry for quite a while (I left it to dry for two days), but it's worth it!

And there you go! We love the result and we're so pleased with it. We went for quite a rough texture in the end and put only one coat of white paint as we still wanted to see the markings on the wood, but it still looks a hundred times better than before :)

Hope it helped and gave you some inspiration for your own furniture!

Giveaway - Free May wallpapers!

Happy first of May everyone!! I don't know about you, but I'm so relieved it's the weekend. It's been a crazy week! I've been finalising a new stationery project though that I can't wait to show you :)

So this time I was inspired by a little expression that we have in France that basically translates to "In May, I do what I please" and I felt that it was just right for these fresh, playful wallpapers. I'm actually really pleased with them as it's not often that I combine handmade painted type with illustrative elements done on a computer. But it works quite well, don't you think? Make sure to download the whole set to freshen up your desktops ;)
